Gu Cuifang was only 35 years old when she was killed. She was the owner of a nail shop in Wangfujing Shopping Center, Gaoping District, Nanchong City, Sichuan Province. After her divorce in the early years, she lived alone in Gaoping District, Nanchong City, with her daughter under the age of 8.

In the second half of 2018, Qu Jiang and Gu Cuifang were introduced to each other and later became lovers. Qu divorced his ex-wife in July 2019 in order to be with Gu Cuifang, and they continued their public relationship.

Since October 2019, Gu Cuifang has asked to break up with Qu several times, but Qu opposed the move. Afraid that Gu Cuifang would break up with him, Qu Jiang pestered Gu Cuifang for a long time. On June 1, 2020, Qu Jiang believed that Gu Cuifang could not be redeemed even if he threatened her. At the same time, he suspected that there was a third party and he was cheated by Gu Cuifang. His divorce and debt crisis were also caused by Gu Cuifang. Qu Jiang hated Gu Cuifang and decided to kill Gu Cuifang to vent his anger. Qu Jiang had prepared a kitchen knife, a dagger and other items for hiding after committing the crime.

At about 2:00 PM on June 1, 2020, Qu Jiang, carrying the crime knife, rode a battery bike to Gu Cuifang’s workplace in Wangfujing Shopping Mall in Gaoping District, where he waited for and tracked Gu Cuifang. At about 8 o ‘clock that evening, Qu Jiang found Gu Cuifang after work. He sneaked into the building unit of Gu Cuifang’s residential community and waited for opportunities to attack her on the roof. At about 12 PM, Qu Jiang moved his battery car from the entrance of the residential building unit to the back door of the residential area, so as to avoid monitoring and flee the scene quickly.

At around 5:30 a.m. on June 2, 2020, Qu Jiang came to the 16th floor where Gu Cuifang lived from the top of the building, opened the burglarproof door of Gu Cuifang’s house with the key he had stolen before and entered the room. Then he turned off the main power switch. Armed with a kitchen knife and a dagger, Qu forced his way into the room where Gu Cuifang and her daughter Chen, who was not yet 8, were sleeping. Qu rushed to the bed, held Gu’s head and threatened her not to scream.

The court found that in front of Gu Cuifang’s daughter, Qu Jiang attacked and stabbed Gu Cuifang’s head, chest, abdomen and limbs with a kitchen knife and dagger, causing more than 50 wounds on Gu’s body before Qu fled the scene.

Judicial identification showed that Gu Cuifang was hacked and stabbed with a sharp instrument, causing bleeding from multiple wounds in her body, and bleeding from multiple organs including heart, lungs, liver, spleen and kidneys. She died of acute hemorrhagic shock. After brutally injuring Gu Cuifang, Qu Jiang did not leave the scene of the crime immediately. Instead, he washed his hands and weapons in Gu Cuifang’s kitchen and escaped by riding a battery bike with the clothes and equipment he had prepared beforehand.

Gu’s daughter, who narrowly escaped death, remained in a state of panic after Qu left and opened her home to ask a next-door neighbor for help, who called the police.

Qu was arrested on June 3, 2020, when he fled to Yuechi County and was put into criminal detention on the same day. Qu confessed to killing Gu Cuifang with a kitchen knife.
