Under China’s distinctive hukou system

China’s household registration system, is the world’s only, only one kind of Chinese characteristics.

 Government, management, policy

In any other country or region, if a city accepts your labor force, it proves that the city needs you, so children go to school near their parents’ workplace.

There is no city that has absorbed parents as a workforce but has not solved the problem of educating their children.

Under China’s distinctive hukou system, a Beijing hukou is sometimes harder to get than a green card.

My friend made a profound comparison and found that the possibility of getting a household registration in Shanghai is much higher than that in Beijing.

Li Jiaqi and Yang Chaoyue were able to get hukou in Shanghai, which everyone thought was reasonable. If they had been in Beijing, they would not have been able to get hukou either.

Shanghai is loosening its hukou system in order to attract top talent.

In Shanghai, almost all graduates with a master’s degree from world-class universities can get a hukou as long as they meet the basic application requirements, but that is not possible in Beijing.

We looked at Beijing’s hukou system and found only two channels.

The first is that you go to a state-owned enterprise that gives you a hukou, and if you miss out on the status of a fresh graduate, this road is basically blocked.

The second is that you take points to settle down, or have a special talent introduction policy, this one probability is lower, longer.

So recently, after I studied the hukou system with my brother, I gave it up.

My brother is about 40 years old. I really hope he can come back to Beijing from Guangzhou. After all, we still hope to have a family reunion when we are old.

However, we tried countless ways, but we could not solve the problem of his child’s studying in Beijing and the college entrance examination. After much entanglement, we finally gave up and decided to live in Beijing, but let his child go to school in Tianjin.

It’s hard to feel at home in a city when you belong to it but your children don’t.

When it comes to the ease of getting a hukou, Beijing loses and Shanghai wins

Finally, why do I stay in Beijing? I think about it, because I have no choice.

People tend to stay in familiar territory.

I am from hebei province, apply for the school, from my nearest big city, is Beijing, so I took an examination of Beijing.

Having studied in Beijing for more than 7 years, it is natural to start a business here.

It is very near to my hometown. It takes about 4~5 hours for us to drive home during the Spring Festival, but it only takes more than 2 hours by high-speed rail.

If you live in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, which includes Shandong, Henan and Shanxi provinces, Beijing is pretty much your only choice.

Under the siphon effect, Beijing sucked up the development of all the surrounding cities, and did not drive the economy of Hebei, Henan and Tianjin. On the contrary, Beijing was given priority to any favorable conditions.

By contrast, if you live in a free shipping area, you can go to Hangzhou, Nanjing, Suzhou, Shanghai.

The joint development of these cities has provided more choices for local people.

If I need a job, I can choose more than Shanghai.

So in terms of promoting the development of the surrounding cities and providing more opportunities, Beijing also failed completely.
