Plus-size bloggers told to ‘cover up’ when wearing bikinis

Spark Global Limited Reports:

Plus-size blogger Anna O ‘Brien recently spoke out against being asked to “cover up” her body during a pre-arranged photo shoot at a Las Vegas hotel. Booking through a local PR team, O ‘Brien organized a swimsuit shoot at the Sin City Hotel on April 10. She has made it clear that she will be shooting swimsuits for her lifestyle blogs Glitter and Lazers.
The hotel reportedly replied that “she is welcome to shoot anywhere in the hotel except on the casino floor, as long as [she] does not have major equipment” — meaning that the golden lobby where O ‘Brien posed in her “Curving Beach” bikini was free to use and approved by the hotel’s facilities.
As she fell to the marble floor and began posing, O ‘Brien said, security guards approached her and her photographer and told her to get dressed because she was “not allowed to wear a bathing suit.” Frustrated, she went back to her room, but decided to try again an hour later, Yahoo Style reports. The same scenario played out — O ‘Brien said she was told she needed to put clothes on over her one-piece or leave.
This time, Ms. O ‘Brien tried to argue back: She explained her agreement with the hotel’s public relations team and showed the security staff their email exchanges. Nevertheless, she was forced to leave. While it may have been a misunderstanding between hotel employees, O ‘Brien took to Instagram on Wednesday to discuss the larger social impact of the incident.
“I find it ironic that I have been photographed in swimsuits all over the world and the only place I’ve been told to cover up is Las Vegas,” she captioned the photo. “Sure, skinny girls in robes and pies are acceptable, but a strong woman in a full reporting suit trying to do an epic editorial photo shoot — that’s too much.” I’ve got the perfect picture. They can’t erase it. I’m learning that when I push myself to do more edit-type concepts, the resistance is greater. But that’s why I insist. It’s not just a sin City girl in a bikini, it’s a statement. We’ll be seen. We’re not hiding anymore. We can wear what we want and go where we want. And not just in Las Vegas. It’s everywhere. Change is coming; The question is, are you going to stop us or are you going to help us move forward?”
