More than a dozen shootings have taken place in the US city of Chicago over the weekend

A total of 11 people were killed and 45 wounded in more than a dozen shootings in Chicago, Illinois, between Friday night, July 16, and midnight on Sunday 18, according to local media reports on July 19. The shooting victims ranged in age from 8 to 62, according to police.


Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced this week that the U.S. government will send a federal gun violence combat team to work with local police on gun trafficking. Lightfoot says gun violence is an urgent issue and she is eager to reduce it in the Chicago area.
